My first year at the University of Cincinnati could not have been more different than I thought it would be. With that being said, I wouldn’t change a thing.
I started off the year by going through Panhellenic formal recruitment and finding my home within Kappa Delta. One of my conversations during the process was with the recruitment chair who reassured me about all the reasons why I wanted to join the Greek community. Being part of a sorority allowed me to form bonds with others, to step out of my comfort zone, and to experience opportunities I wouldn’t necessarily be introduced to otherwise. I became extremely passionate about what Greek life had to offer, so I applied for a position on UC’s Junior Panhellenic Council. I was later slated as their Personal Growth Coordinator. We work closely with College Panhellenic Council and that has been educational in learning about the more professional side of communication between chapters and the university.
Over spring break, I traveled to Dubai with a group of fellow UHP students; I elaborated on the trip more under the Experiences tab. When I returned, I started an internship with Inspiring Service, a nonprofit based out of Norwood, OH (too close for Xavier University for my preference if we’re being honest). We are the first organization to award students for their volunteer hours that benefit the United Nations’ Global Goals. I served as UC’s campus representative that communicated with and encouraged individuals to apply for our award. I was coached on how to effectively reach out to student organizations and practiced my public speaking skills. When the awards application closed, I transitioned into more of a research role which is what I’m interested in later pursuing. I truly enjoyed my time working in an office environment and maintaining professional relationships. While I’m taking a break for the summer, I am excited to return when school starts back up.
I am currently preparing myself for another summer at YMCA Camp Kern, and overall looking forward to what lies ahead.
