As my close friends are graduating, I am beginning to reflect over my second year at UC.
I came back from summer as a Retreat Leader for the Honors Welcome Retreat. I met some cool freshman, bonded with new friends, and made some entertaining memories. It was refreshing to come back from summer break to such a large sense of community and reminded me why I loved being part of UHP. I knew I wanted to take part in the Welcome Retreat again so I applied for, and accepted, the position to be a Retreat Coordinator for Summer 2018. I am so excited for the opportunity to plan another amazing retreat alongside the best sidekick a girl could ask for, Claire James. She brings a sense of joy and honesty to everything she’s a part of. I look to her as a sense of everyday inspiration and could not have asked for a better person to take on this journey with.
My time in Kappa Delta has also challenged me to dive more in depth on my top personality trait- altruistic. In November, I was elected as the 2018 Vice President of Community Service. I was thrilled to work directly with the local Girl Scouts and to plan philanthropy events to prevent child abuse. As important as these responsibilities are to my position, I quickly learned the role was much more dynamic than that. Our council has grown close through the many scenarios we’ve tackled together. A role I thought I knew inside and out opened my eyes to more soft skills than I expected - communication, problem solving, and teamwork in high pressure settings. The women I am surrounded by have shown me how important it is to have a network there to support you and to cheer you on. I love the people I have found through Kappa Delta because they are the lifetime friends that make the everyday challenges worth it.
I am currently writing this from my new favorite place in the world, Lake Zurich in Switzerland. It is breathtakingly beautiful, and I wish pictures would do it justice. This is my first summer away from Camp Kern in eleven years (a challenge in itself) and I am traveling Europe during a study abroad through Lindner College of Business. For now, I am going to enjoy the view. I can’t wait to share my adventures when I return!
