What?
This past semester I was fortunate to be a part of the team behind planning the Welcome Retreat. Claire James was my partner in crime and I am so thankful to be able to create memories with her. We invited all the incoming freshman to YMCA Camp Kern for 36 hours of learning about honors, meeting new people, and creating endless memories. Between running around camp trying to find out how long the longest zipline is or playing euchre until 1 am, I was able to welcome these freshman into our honors community.
So What?
Through this experience, I have gained a wider understanding of the University Honors Program. Each advisor has their own specialty and they all compliment each other so perfectly. Most of all, they each serve the University Honors Program with one common goal: to make an impact on each student in our community. I have an increased amount of respect for these advisors and staff members ever since our collaboration on the retreat.
Now What?
My love and passion for UHP just keeps growing. After seeing the behind-the-scenes impact of the retreat on individuals as well as the personal impact of older students with younger ones, I am excited to continue giving back to this amazing community in any way I can.
