Oh wow, you’re telling me I’m a senior now?
I started junior year after a summer abroad and came back with fresh perspectives, new friends, and less cash in my wallet. I was energized by the importance of reflecting in the moment and the continuous learning opportunities presented to me in countless European countries. The excitement of my host country, France, winning the men’s FIFA World Cup is a moment I will never forget and adding Edinburgh, Scotland to my list of favorites because of the winding cobble streets leading from 16th century castles to modern business districts (it’s also the home of Harry Potter!)
In August, I continued my streak of attending the Welcome Retreat. This time was different though- I coordinated it! Alongside my partner-in-crime, Claire and I spent months preparing to host 200 incoming freshman, program 36 hours of team building and euchre tournaments, and be the first introduction to the Honors community for these new students. It was a challenging, tiring, coffee-induced yet irreplaceable experience. I am so thankful the advisors put their trust in me to be the first person to welcome these students to our amazing program.
Kappa Delta also put their trust in me this academic year. I concluded my term as VP-Community Service by raising over $10,000 for Prevent Child Abuse America and programming over 8 events that built confidence in troops from the Girl Scouts of Southwestern Ohio. While listing those numbers make me look (or at least sound) like I know what I’m doing, I couldn’t have accomplished as much without the women who were sitting next to me. They pushed me to be the best version of myself while representing the women of our organization to the best of my ability. The support and love I received is infinite. My chapter continued their trust in me when I was elected as the 2019 Chapter President. While I spent the spring semester enforcing risk management policies and managing budgets, I also represented our values at all levels on campus. I have so much love and compassion and respect for the members of the Omega Xi Chapter, and I can’t wait to see how we continue to grow together.
So what’s in store for Senior year? Well, I’ll be continuing my role as chapter president, working closely with UHP as an Admissions Ambassador, and taking on a new position as a Senior Class Officer to bridge the gap between undergraduate students and the Alumni Center through story telling. While these activities are currently what’s reserving time on my Google calendar, I don’t know how my network will grow or what “lasts” I’ll do as an undergraduate student. Either way, I sure can’t wait to find out.
Senior year - bring it on!
